Deadlines and 2018 Margin Protection Policy

 

The harvest price for the 2017 wheat policy was established at $5.12. This price was higher than the projected price from last summer at $4.74. Please call your agent if you think you might have a claim ASAP. There are deadlines to adhere to when filing harvest claims.

Wheat premiums must be paid on/before 9/30/17 or you may become ineligible to buy crop insurance for the 2018 crop year. Corn / soybean premiums must be paid on/before 9/30/17 in order to avoid any interest charges.

Price discovery for the 2018 wheat crop starts on 8/15 and ends on 9/14. September 2018 futures are used for crop insurance purposes. They are currently trading at approximately $5.04.

REMINDER: Please contact your agent if you are putting insured fields of corn or beans to another use besides harvesting it (i.e., chopping for silage, abandoning). If you suspect you have harvest losses, contact your agent ASAP to ensure you adhere to policy deadlines for filing losses.

The 2018 Margin Protection policy for corn and beans is available in Ohio.

  • Can be purchased in conjunction with individual policies
  • Coverage levels available up to 95%
  • What you are insuring is the difference between a projected gross revenue per acre and projected costs per acre less a deductible
