Current Wheat and Fall Reminders:
- Any Changes to your policy, including adding coverage, changing entity, ownership, shares, adding acreage, or coverage changes for the 2026 wheat crop, need to be completed by September 30th.
- Please send 2025 wheat production numbers to us if you have not already done so. Having your 2025 production loaded in your databases will allow us to generate the most accurate quote for 2026 coverage options.
- Wheat Harvest price came in at $5.43 – a 10% decline from the projected price of $6.06. Our area had some high-quality wheat, but we did discover a few wheat claims due to the price drop.
- All 2025 Wheat claims need to be filed before October 14th.
Any 2026 wheat planted after the final plant date loses 1% coverage per day for up to 5 days. - Prevent Plant Wheat can be filed after the final plant date. The deadline to file is October 28th. You can receive 60% of your guarantee unless you plant the acreage to another insurable crop in 2026. If another crop is planted, your payment will decrease to 35% of your prevent plant guarantee and 60% of your APH yield assigned to your database.
Current Corn and Soybean Reminders
- Have a Safe Harvest this Fall! Let us know if you have any questions on coverages and keep us in the loop with how harvest is going!
- If you plan on carrying 2024 grain into 2025 harvest, please let us know. We will need to get that production measured and counted toward your 2024 production versus your 2025 production. In the event of a loss, those old crop bushels could disqualify you from a claim payment if not accounted for properly.
- As harvest finishes up this fall, please send 2025 Corn and Soybean production numbers to us, even if they are ballpark estimates. This allows us to find any losses that you may have and helps us generate the most accurate quote for 2026 coverage options.
Crop Insurance Updates from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act
Included with this newsletter is the official policy bulletin from RMA outlining recent changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). These updates include expanded subsidies, added flexibility, and enhanced support for beginning farmers. Below is a quick summary of the highlights.
- Beginning Farmer & Rancher (BFR) Boost
- Benefits to BFR’s have been increased to 10 crop years, not just five. In addition to the existing 10% premium subsidy, new farmers receive an extra 5% premium subsidy per year for years 1–2, 3% in year 3, and 1% in year 4. Deadline to apply or amend BFR status: November 30, 2025. We will be in touch with the BFR’s that have expired in the last 5 years. We will need to reapply to get discount pricing.
- Expanded Area-Based Coverage Options and Government Program Flexibility
- Area-based coverages like SCO and ECO have received a subsidy increase from 65% to 80%. SCO coverage has increased to 90%. You can now also purchase SCO regardless of your FSA program (ARC or PLC) election, removing a prior limitation.
